A-1 is proud to announce that Betty
Newman has volunteered to run our community projects. With this in mind,
Betty has selected the following for our first of many projects to help our
community:
Are you interested in a fun and fulfilling volunteer project?
Come join our new group that will meet on the 1st Monday of each month
to make fun hats for the patients in the UNMH Pediatric Oncology unit.
There are children aged infant to teenager receiving radiation and
chemotherapy for cancer and other diseases which causes them to loose their
hair. A colorful, fun type hat is one of a few things that they can find to
smile about in the hospital atmosphere that they must experience.
Our group will focus on making hats for children in the 6 year old to
teenage age group. The hats will be donated to the Hat Tree which is a
service project of students at St. Pius High School.
Most hats require only a half yard of fabric, a little imagination and a
couple of hours of your time. This is a great way to utilize all those
scraps of fabric that we sewers tend to accumulate.
Betty Newman will be the facilitator for the "Fun Hats for Kids" sewing
group.
The first meeting will be April 5, 2004 in the classroom of A-1 Sewing
and Vacuum, 11:00 am - 1:00pm. A pattern for a brimmed hat suitable for
either a girl or a boy, depending upon on your choice of fabric, will be
supplied. You will need:
- 1 2 yard ( 45"-60") fabric
- 1/2 yard interfacing
- 1/4 yard lining
- any embellishments you desire
- sewing machine and notions (scissors, pins, measuring tape etc)
For any questions please call Betty at 293-6919.
